Working it out. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s lawyers are trying to hash out a custody agreement for the estranged couple and their six children, a source confirms to Us Weekly.

“Lawyers are trying to work out details of the custody agreement,” the insider tells Us. “Brad is waiting to file a divorce response until the agreement is in place.”

“Brad has a month to respond to the initial filing, so there is no rush,” another source adds. “The fact that things have quieted down so much is a good indicator that discussions are moving forward and are productive. The main issue is custody.”

As previously reported, the actress and humanitarian, 41, filed for divorce on Monday, September 19, citing irreconcilable differences. She is requesting sole physical custody of their six kids, Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8.

The celebrity divorce filings indicate that she asked the Fight Club actor, 52, to receive joint legal custody. But what does that mean for the Jolie-Pitt clan?

“I would read into it that she views herself as the primary caregiver, and should be [in that role] moving forward,” divorce attorney Christopher C. Melcher of L.A.’s Woodland Hills tells Us.

Jolie requesting shared legal custody means decisions about schools and health care “would continue to be made jointly with Brad,” Melcher — who is not working with the family — adds.

While it remains unknown if Pitt will fight for shared physical custody, the pair’s eldest son Maddox, will have to option to specify which parent he prefers to live with full-time. “When a child is 14 or older, they have the right to address the court,” Melcher explains to Us.

A second insider previously told Us that Brangelina frequently fought over their differing parenting styles, among other factors, which ultimately led to Jolie’s decision to call it quits after two years of marriage and 12 years together.

“[Jolie] did try to make it work, but her kids come first, and she couldn’t let them see Mommy and Daddy like this,” the source explained. “The fighting got worse, and they disagreed a lot about parenting and a lot of things.”
