Kevin Costner Claims His Ex is Waging War in his Celebrity Divorce

[Source: Extra]

Celebrity lawyer Christopher C. Melcher, who is ranked as a best family law attorney in CA, explains how Kevin Costner‘s ex is waging war in their celebrity divorce on Extra TV.

In court face-to-face, and both wearing sunglasses, in the new showdown in their $400 million divorce. Extra was there as Kevin’s ex-Christine Baumgartner, flanked by her legal team, arrived for today’s hearing. She did not answer our questions, and she kept her head down as she entered the Santa Barbara California courthouse.

Kevin Costner’s Celebrity Divorce War

Kevin Costner dodged the cameras when he snuck into the court hearing and was not talking either as he left for a lunch break.  Instead, amping up his war of words in new court documents, claiming an unreasonable Christine is waging a “relentless jihad” against him.

What’s At Stake in their Divorce

At stake, how much Kevin, who Christine claims is now worth $400 million, must pay in child support for their three teenage children? Inside she broke down in tears as she looked back upon the beautiful, rich, and famous lifestyle they once enjoyed.

In court documents Christine just filed, she insists the judge hike the amount to $175,000 a month. Adding, “Because the children fly on private aircraft to go on luxury vacations when they are with their father, they should be able to go on comparable vacations when they are with her. Even if the child support payments also improve Christine’s lifestyle.”

But Kevin is firing back. He claims a man, identified in court papers as her boyfriend, recently gave her 20 grand. And he says he’s forked over more than a million dollars since she filed for divorce.

“It’s just unfortunate with kids in such a long marriage to see them trade such heavy blows in court,” states top family law attorney Christopher C. Melcher.

Celebrity lawyer Christopher Melcher, who is not representing either side, was also at the courthouse today. “What the judge is looking for is how much reasonably these children need to live in this very expensive community and to have the similar lifestyle- not identical lifestyle- that they had during marriage as a form of child support. My prediction is going to land more towards $60,000 or $70,000 a month. She’s also asking for over $800,000 in legal and accounting fees to process her case. Now, obviously, this is a hard-fought battle, so both sides are spending a lot of money on attorney’s fees. But this thing has really spiraled out of control,” states Chris Melcher, partner of Walzer Melcher LLP, which is ranked as a best family law firm in California.

Kevin Costner’s Prenup

The battle’s been raging ever since Christine reportedly blindsided Kevin when she filed for divorce in May. They appear to be quite happy on the Oscar’s red carpet just a year earlier, but accusations have been flying fast and furious following the split. He said their prenup required her to leave the $145 million Santa Barbara compound, where they’d spent much of the pandemic together. She eventually did. And is now accusing him of hiding the big bucks he’s made from his movies, and hit western Yellowstone. She’s leveling new allegations in court papers, claiming, “he’s withholding evidence and being stonewalling and evasive.” And the war is not over. Another hearing on their prenup is set for November.
